Celtics lead NBA Finals 3-0 as Luka Dončić fouls out late
The Boston Celtics are one win away from the 2024 NBA title. The Celtics withstood a frantic Dallas Mavericks rally in the closing minutes to earn a 125-118 victory in Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night at TD Garden in Boston. Jayson Tatum led the Celtics with 28 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Jaylen Brown scored 21 with three steals. Derrick White had 18 points and three steals and Payton Pritchard scored 17 off the bench. Luka Dončić led the Mavericks with 30 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Spencer Dinwiddie added 21 points and Jalen Brunson had 17. The Celtics led by 19 points early in the fourth quarter, but the Mavericks chipped away at the lead and cut it to 118-113 with 2:30 remaining. Dinwiddie hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 120-118 with 1:13 left, but Tatum answered with a driving layup to give the Celtics a 122-118 lead with 46.8 seconds left. Dončić fouled out with 22.4 seconds remaining, and the Celtics hit 3 of 4 free throws in the final seconds to seal the victory. The Celtics can clinch the NBA title with a win in Game 4 on Friday night in Boston.
